Who are the online shop owners? Internet users? Of course, but that is not the answer. The old man example. They like clothes.
-
Mr. Kwon, Joonsoo, an entrepreneur of clothing business, was a fashionable young man since high school; he wore jeans with self-made chains attached even when he was still in high school. When I asked him why he was in the clothing business, he said without hesitation, “To make money!”

However he ended up dropping out of college and he played base guitar in a band. He used to work at a guitar store and at a broadcasting company, MBC, as a sound FD. He also used to run his own guitar store and he went bankrupt and ended up with huge debt to pay back.

After all of that, he started the clothing business on the recommendation by his mother who knew her son’s talent in fashion. At first, he started as a clerk at a store that one of his friends was working. He worked his hardest to gain experience although his monthly salary was only $600. Later he started his own store in Dongdaimoon investing in $30,000, and he recently opened an online store with brand name Ozzi selling clothing and fashion accessories. He wholesales on the online store and also sells clothes on Gmarket.

After she obtained her master’s degree in fashion at Seoul National University, she started working in 2000 at Internet MBC for 2 years in web business and contents planning. She started her own business in the summer of 2005 leveraging her academic background and working experience. After 5 months of preparation from website building to merchandising, she opened borntoshop.co.kr.
-
Although she is in her thirty’s, considered to be somewhat of old for online entrepreneur, she has been running the business working 24-7 ever since the opening. She targets career women in late 20’s and mid 30’s with subtly formal but tasteful and comfortable clothes. She sells only on her website and doesn’t sell on marketplaces unlike many people do because the competitive edge she is going for is not a price. She particularly emphasizes on the point that it is important to acquire and retain loyal customer base through differentiated originality and concept in a world of women’s fashion online shoppingmalls. She maintains such principle not only in the class room but also in her own business operation. She has her own know-how on advertising her website without paying for online marketing or marketplace. Rather than executing inefficient advertising on the mass, she sponsors and advertises on fashion magazines to attract fashion conscious customers.
-
She is planning on turning current loyal customers into manias for borntoshop style by expanding the horizon of her business, such as participating in collections overseas.
